THIS shocking video shows smoke billowing from a house in South Croydon during a devastating fire.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at a detached house in St Augustin's Avenue at around midday today.

The second floor roof conversion was completely destroyed by the fire, as well as part of the first and ground floor of the property, which had been converted into flats.

One gas cylinder was located on the first floor and cooled to an ambient temperature to avoid explosion when exposed to heat.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Croydon, Wallington, Woodside, Addington, Norbury and Beckenham fire stations attended the scene.

The fire was under control by 3.37pm.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
