A woman has been treated on the scene of a flat fire in Croydon.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Epsom Road at around 6.10pm on March 12.

The Brigade tackled the fire in the kitchen on the first floor of a two-roomed flat.

The fire is believed to have been caused by combustible items left on a hob.

The blaze was under control by 6.40pm.

Fire crews from Croydon, Wallington and Purley fire stations attended the scene.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “It’s really important that you don’t leave cooking unattended and never leave fabrics, such as tea towels, near to a cooker or a hob, because they can catch alight very easily and flames can spread quickly.

“Please also take care with loose clothing that can easily catch fire. Don’t lean over the hob when cooking and roll up sleeves that might hang over the stove.”
