A retired Metropolitan Police officer has appeared in court charged with rape, attempted rape and indecent assault more than 14 years ago.

Former Pc Stephen Kyere, 56, was an attached to Hammersmith and Fulham police at the time of the allegations in Teddington, south-west London in April 2004.

Kyere, who retired from the Met in March last year, was off-duty, according to the force.

The allegations were investigated at the time but the case was recently reopened, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday.

Kyere appeared in the dock, speaking only to confirm his name, date of birth and address in Ashford, Kent.

He was not asked to enter pleas to the three charges.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring granted Kyere bail ahead of his next appearance at the Old Bailey on March 1.
