Crystal Palace keeper Julian Speroni has revealed that talks are underway to keep him at Selhurst Park once his present contract expires at the end current season.

Having started the season as first-choice under former manager Peter Taylor, the Argentine stopper had to prove himself all over again once Neil Warnock took over the reigns back in October.

But how he did. Currently playing some of his best football since moving south, the former Dundee man chalked up his sixth clean sheet of the season against Bristol City.

Of the two South American keepers on display on Saturday, when Crystal Palace beat Bristol City 2-0, the Brazilian Basso is currently ranked as the top stopper in the Championship with Speroni in fifth spot.

But, on the evidence presented during the 90 minutes, the Actim stats aren't telling the full story.

Speroni's recent fine displays should earn him a new deal when Warnock speaks to his agent next week but the Palace number one isn't revealing too much "We are talking about a contract at the moment - but I can't say more than that," said the 28-year-old.

Meanwhile, Speroni did say that the Palace dressing room is taking some inspiration from those who were involved in the dramatic 2003-2004 season when Iain Dowie took the Eagles into the Premiership.

"We have always thought we are good enough to fight for promotion," said Speroni.

"We didn't start very well so people thought we weren't going to make it this season.

"But we haven't lost faith and kept working and thankfully things are starting to work out for us."
