All Southern rail services to and from London Victoria have been cancelled until January 10 due to coronavirus-related staff shortages.

Trains were due to resume on January 4, having been suspended since Monday to allow planned engineering works to take place.

Southern services will now not stop at Battersea Park, Clapham Junction or Wandsworth Common for an additional week.

A spokesperson for Southern said: “Due to the ongoing effect of coronavirus isolation and sickness, there will be no direct services to/from London Victoria until 10 January.

"There will be no Southern or Gatwick Express services at London Victoria, Battersea Park, Clapham Junction or Wandsworth Common until Monday 10 January.

“The times of trains on all routes will be changed and, on many routes, services will be reduced.”

Multiple routes across south London will be affected by the disruption.

The Clapham Junction – Milton Keynes, East Croydon – London Bridge via Forest Hill and Epsom – London Bridge via Carshalton Beeches services will not run.

Beckenham Junction - London Bridge via Crystal Palace service has also been amended.

There will be no direct service between Mitcham Junction and Balham, meaning customers will need to travel via Streatham and Streatham Common.

Anyone travelling to London Victoria will need to go via London Bridge (or London Blackfriars on Thameslink services) and use TfL buses or the Tube to complete their journey.

London Victoria is one of the UK’s busiest stations, and is normally connected by Southern to locations such as Brighton, Eastbourne and Portsmouth.

A spokesman for industry body the Rail Delivery Group said: “Our staff are working in difficult circumstances and, like everyone else, they are susceptible to the virus.

“As they demonstrated last year in the height of the pandemic, our people are dedicated to keeping the country moving so that other key workers can get to where they need to be.

“We may not be able to run every train we had planned and there might be changes to some services.

“We would advise anyone travelling to check online before they set out on their journey or to sign up for automatic alerts from National Rail Alert Me.”
