A learner driver who was caught without L plates or with a qualified driver in the vehicle has been fined.

Francesca Nicholls, 26, of Bardfield, Basildon, was stopped in Dagenham in April this year.

Nicholls had a provisional licence but it was found there were no 'L' plates displayed and she was not accompanied by a qualified driver.

She was subsequently charged with driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

At Bromley Magistrates' Court the cases was proved via the single justice procedure.

The procedure is for cases where it can be decided by a magistrate without going to court.

Nicholls was handed three penalty points, fined £220 and ordered to pay a £34 victim services fund.

She must also pay £100 costs.
