Images taken at the scene of the emergency services incident in West Croydon this afternoon show a heavy police presence in the area with multiple cordons in place.

Photographs and video footage posted across social media on Tuesday afternoon (November 16) showed large numbers of emergency services personnel in the area around West Croydon station.

Police meanwhile ordered evacuations of a number of buildings and shops in the area in response to the situation, which they attributed to a "suspicious vehicle".

A spokesperson for the Met Police in Croydon said: "Cordons are in place near #WestCroydon BR Station after officers became aware of a suspicious vehicle at around 15:00hrs. Specialist officers are attending to assess. Some buildings/ shops evacuated as a precaution."

They added: "Road closures are in place. Motorists should use alternative routes. Bus and train services have also been disrupted."

London Ambulance Service were also called to the scene, but confirmed later on Tuesday evening they had since been stood down.

A spokesperson told the Croydon Guardian: "We were called at 3.36pm today to reports of an incident at Station Road, West Croydon.

"We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and a hazardous area response team. They did not treat any patients and have now been stood down from the scene."
