Emergency services responded to an incident at the Sunbury Cross Premier Inn this evening (Thursday, October 28).

Images circulated on social media platforms that showed a heavy emergency services presence at the hotel on Staines Road in Sunbury.

Fire crews, paramedics and police vehicles were all seen at the site, with cordons creating a perimeter in the affected area. An eye witness described seeing fire crews wearing respirators at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Spelthorne branch of Surrey Police confirmed their attendance at the incident but offered scant details, pending an update later today.

"We're currently responding to an incident @ the Premier Inn on Staines Rd in Sunbury along with colleagues from the fire & ambulance service. There is a cordon in place at the scene.

"We do not believe there is any wider threat to the public and we will update you when we can," a spokesperson for the force posted to Twitter just before 5pm.

Just after 8pm, a spokesperson for Surrey Police told the Surrey Comet: "We can confirm that emergency services are scaling back their presence at the Premier Inn in Sunbury and guests are returning to the hotel after being evacuated as a precautionary measure. We will provide further details in due course."

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were contacted for comment.
