A man has died after a fatal shooting in Croydon this morning (Saturday, October 2), police have said.

Emergency services were called to reports of a shooting on Birdhurst Road in Croydon in the moments before 5am on Saturday.

Paramedics and police arrived to find the victim, a 35-year-old man:

"Despite the efforts of the emergency services, a 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course," a spokesperson for the Met Police, who described the incident as a "fatal shooting", said on Saturday.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) also confirmed a man had died.

An LAS spokesperson told the Croydon Guardian:

"We were called at 4.53am today (2 October) to reports of an incident on Birdhurst Road, Croydon.

"We sent two ambulance crews, two medics in cars, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance by road.

"Sadly a person died at the scene."

A murder investigation has since been launched by the Met Police, to be led by DCI Katherine Goodwin of Specialist Crime. There have been no arrests so far.

"My thoughts are with the family of the victim. They will be supported by specialist officers," Goodwin said, adding that a nearby house party could be linked to the shooting.

"Although our enquiries are at a very early stage, I believe the victim may have attended a house party which continued through the early hours of Saturday morning, near to the scene of the shooting in Birdhurst Road, Croydon. Officers would like to speak to anyone who was at that party. Even if you do not think you saw or heard anything significant, please contact police if you were there. I also want to appeal for any witnesses, anyone with information or anyone who may have relevant dashcam or other footage to please get in touch," she added.
