NEWCASTLE United boss Steve Bruce has become the odds on favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

The Magpies 1-1 draw against Watford at the weekend extended their winless start to the Premier League season to six matches with the club sitting just outside the bottom three.

Sean Longstaff gave Newcastle the lead in the first half before the Hornets found a second half equaliser through Ismaila Sarr. The Magpies could have won the game through a last minute chance from Jacob Murphy but he failed to convert his chance.

Bruce is now the favourite ahead of Norwich City manager Daniel Farke and Spurs boss Nuno Esperito Santo. The 60-year-old has installed at 7/4 as of this morning.

Bruce has been under sustained pressure from fans from the beginning of the season following a less than fruitful transfer window over the summer bringing in just one player over the summer, Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock signing on a permanent deal.

The results that have followed have frustrated the fan base with further calls for the manager to lose his job and for the current owner Mike Ashley to sell the club. Fans were chanting for the manager to be sacked at Vicarage Road at the weekend.

Bruce responded to those chants by saying: "It's difficult - but that's all it is, noise.

"I'm just going to get one with my job. Try to do the job as best I can.

"We have the makings of a half-decent team. We have half a dozen missing.

"I can see us progressing, where others can't but certainly I can."

It's certainly no fun to be in and around Newcastle United either as a fan or a member of staff at the moment but the club are looking to turn their fortunes around on the pitch.

Bruce and co are back on the road next weekend in the Premier League where they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
