FANS of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK are up in arms after the first elimination of season three.

For a second season in a row, the queen representing Brighton was told to “sashay away” in the first episode of the show.

In the show’s return, the queens had to design two looks, one representing their hometown, and the other inspired by one of their favourite things.

Anubis, who described herself as “odd, outrageous and overweight,” took to the stage in a gown inspired by the helter skelter on Brighton Palace Pier - with two ice creams on her head, and an outfit based on her favourite thing - sea creatures, which saw her wrapped in netting.

While judge Graham Norton praised her hometown look, he described her sea creature look as appearing like a “mum going to a dinner dance with a crochet shawl over an evening dress.”

Singer and producer Michelle Visage described the sea creature look as “basic”, with RuPaul adding that she was not “the catch of the day.”

She lost out to Elektra Fence from Burnley in a lip-sync performance to the song Sweet Melody by Little Mix.

In a leaving message to her fellow queens, Anubis decried the “curse of Brighton”.

She wrote: “Camp as tits, darling! The curse of Brighton lives on… love you all!”

Fans of the show quickly took to social media outraged by the decision.

Kemptown MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle claimed that RuPaul might have something against the city, but praised Anubis’ performance.

“You did us proud,” he said.

Anubis’ early exit from the show follows Joe Black’s performance as the first Brighton queen to take part in the show.

After criticism of her outfit depicting the Royal Pavilion and her take on David Bowie, she lost a lip-sync to Bimini Bon Boulash - who later placed as joint runner-up in the last series.

Although she later returned to the show, Joe was sent back home soon after, following criticism from RuPaul for wearing a dress from high street fashion chain H&M.

On Twitter, Joe said that RuPaul is “not welcome in Brighton.”

In a twist for the new series, the top two performing queens had to lip-sync for the win, with Krystal Versace beating the show’s first cisgender female contestant Victoria Scone to win the week.

Queens on the last series of the show attracted a wave of abuse on social media, which was addressed by RuPaul in her opening remarks to the contestants.

Referring to “internet trolls”, she said: “Unless they paying your bills, pay these bitches no mind.”

The winner of the show will be declared the UK’s next drag race superstar and win an all-expenses trip to Hollywood to create a series with the producers of Drag Race.
