Every London borough contains a wealth of historical wonders and tales, yet few (perhaps none?) boast as many beguiling historical set pieces and secrets as Kingston.

These are the subject of a new charity walking tour to be held exclusively tomorrow (Wednesday, August 25) alongside Mayor of Kingston Sushila Abraham and Town Crier Mike Seigel.

The tour, which ends with refreshments at the Chakra Riverside Indian restaurant, will take in some of the town's most intriguing sites such as the Coronation Stone at which numerous Saxon kings that give the town its title were crowned. It also delves into some of the hidden stories behind iconic borough buildings, like the Georgian coach inns hiding in plain sight in the town centre.

"We've all been locked up for a while and it's a chance to enjoy the weather and the town. We're hoping to showcase the historical aspects of Kingston that a lot of people don't know about. Hidden gems in the town from the Coronation stone, the statues and the Market Place itself, not to mention the hidden plaque between Natwest and Next," John Azah, the Kingston Race Equalities Council chair who is supporting the tour, said.

Your Local Guardian:

"We're going to showcase the town and the mayor will be at the start, and finish of the tour a Chakra Riverside for refreshments, it's quite a package!" He added.

The tour is raising money for Mayor Abraham's chosen charities: Anstee Bridge, which funds alternative education for 14-16 year-olds, and Milaap disaster relief for India.

The tour starts at 3pm on Wednesday (August 25), lasts around one hour and tickets cost £15 (including refreshments at Chakra Riverside.
