Lenny Daws is eyeing the European light-welterweight title after what he concedes was a "mixed" 2007.

The Sutton-based boxer had a disasterous start to his year after losing his British title on a split decision against Barry Morrison in January.

Daws bounced back in style by beating Billy Smith over six rounds in May.

But his year came to a stuttering end when he drew with Nigel Wright for the English crown in November.

"My 2007 was a bit of a mixed bag," admitted Daws.

"I lost the title and and ever since I have not been able to get it together again.

"I thought I might get a rematch against Morrison, but that didn't happen. A lot of fighters don't want to fight me, so what can you do?

"People are ducking and diving me because they know I'm a strong fighter - but I am waiting patiently for my opportunity but I will get that title back.

"It is a waiting game for me but I'm capable of winning a belt next year. If things go according to plan I will be European champion by the end of 2008."

Daws' confidence certainly has foundation.

The current British and European champion is Colin Lynes, who Daws defeated in a 2006 British title eliminator. and the 29-year-old boxer is confident he can beat Lynes for a second time in 2008.

"Lynes is figting Gianluca Branco in January for the European belt.

"Hopefully I can get a crack at either Lynes or the Italian and I am confident I can win the title.

"I have boxed a lot of rounds this year, which will leave me in good stead because I know that I can cope with long fights.

"I am more relaxed in fights and I don't panic so once I get my chance I'm confident I can take it."
