Hampton & Richmond manager Alan Devonshire praised his side's bouncebackability after watching them thump Welling United 4-0.

Two goals apiece for Ian Hodges and Elliot Godfrey helped banish the disappointment of losing to Blue Square South strugglers Sutton United on New Year's Day.

Devonshire said: "I said to the players before the game that the mark of a good team is how they bounce back from a defeat, and they couldn't have been more emphatic in their response.

"The result against Sutton was disappointing but I take responsibility for that because I chose to rest players.

"But the players were not low on confidence after that defeat and they showed that."

On the down side for Devonshire, his injury problems do not look to be improving, with Alan Inns (groin), Francis Quarm, Dudley Gardner (both knee), Aaron Barnett (stomach), and Lawrence Yaku (hamstring) missing Saturday's victory.

"We have only got 15 fit players at the moment," Devonshire said.

"We had to put Gardner on the bench just to make up the numbers. It's difficult but we just have to get on with it."

Devonshire is looking forward to Yaku's return, but was quick to stress his forward line boasts plenty of firepower.

"We are eager to get Yaku back in the team because he is a goalscorer but we have already got four players who have scored 10 goals or more this season," he said.

"We are the third highest scorers in the league behind Lewes and Bromley so we must be doing something right."

Devonshire's men host Thurrock on Saturday and entertain Bath City on Tuesday.
