A motorcyclist was injured in a "serious" crash in Epsom this afternoon that forced road closures near Horton Country Park.

The crash happened on Hornton Lane around 3pm, when a car and motorbike collided.

A section of Hornton Lane between Abbots Avenue and Christ Church Road was closed where the crash took place.

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) confirmed their presence at the scene.

A SECAmb spokesperson told the Surrey and Epsom Comet:

"We were called to reports of an RTC involving a car and a motorbike on Horton Lane, Epsom, at approximately 3pm today. Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service (attending in a road vehicle). The motorcyclist was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to St George’s Hospital with potentially serious injuries."

Police advised road users to avoid the area, adding that the closures would likely remain in place until later on Friday evening.

Officers are meanwhile appealing for witnesses to contact them as they investigate what happened.

A spokesperson for Epsom and Ewell Police posted the following to Twitter on Friday afternoon:
