A Purley prep school is on sale for £1 million following a shock closure last summer.

After 88 years, Reedham Park school closed for good in July 2020, it was known as “the little school at the end of the lane”.

The school’s governors said that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and dwindling pupil numbers led to the schools sudden closure.

The school off Old Lodge Lane is now on sale for £1 million and listed as “under offer” on the estate agents Stiles Harold Williams (SHW).

The 0.6 acre site is currently made up of school buildings including six classrooms and a playing field. The leasehold of £60,000 a year is also on offer.

It is close to Reedham Station and could be of interest to developers.  A brochure from SHW said: “This site may be suitable as a residential development opportunity, subject to the grant of planning permission.”

In 1932, the school was founded by Inez Routledge with just 12 pupils.

The private school  had 75 pupils at its last inspection in October 2019 down from 87 the previous year.

When the school closed, a spokesperson said: “Difficult decisions have had to be made in the last few weeks and the heartbreaking choice had to be made as the school is unable to continue with the numbers due in September.”
