The results of the large patient-led survey of GP surgeries across the region are in and have revealed the "best" and "worst" rated surgeries in the Surrey Heartlands area according to their patients.

The Surrey Heartlands CCG covers GP surgeries in about three-quarters of the county including those based in Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking.

The survey related to the Surrey Heartlands CCG sent out some 34,571 questionnaires, with 14,057 (41 per cent) being returned completed.

Overall in Surrey the results showed a high percentage of patients that were satisfied with their GPs.

Some 86 per cent of respondents said their experience of their GP practice was 'Good' (50 per cent 'Very Good', 36 per cent 'Fairly Good') in the region.

Best overall performers

The best performing practice in south east London was the was the Elizabeth House Medical Practice in Warlingham. A very impressive 99 per cent of respondents described their overall experience of the GP as 'Good'.

Second was the Shere Surgery and Dispensary, with 97 per cent 'Good' rating, the same as Springfield Surgery in Elstead (97 per cent), which were both narrowly ahead of Medwyn Surgery in Dorking (96 per cent).

Worst Overall Performers

The worst performing practice according to the patient survey (excluding one now permanently closed) was the Glenlyn Medical Centre in East Molesey. Around 66 per cent of patient respondents rated their experience as 'Good' at the centre in the survey.

Slightly better was the Goldsworth Park Health Centre (71 per cent).

Ease of getting through to GP on the phone

Another key point of interest for patients, especially in the age of Covid-19, concerned how easy it was to contact one's GP over the phone.

In Surrey Heartlands overall according to the data, Guildford Rivers Practice came out on top, with 100 per cent of respondents saying it was 'Easy' to reach their GP via the phone at the surgery.

Also among the best performers in this regard as per the data were the New Ottershaw Surgery (97 per cent), Leith Hill Practice in Dorking (97 per cent) and Springfield Surgery in Elstead (97 per cent).

The GP practice with the lowest percentage of respondents saying it was 'Easy' to get through to their GP on the phone was the Glenlyn Medical Practice in East Molesey, with just 28 per cent.

Elsewhere, low scores in this regard were also recorded for the Shepperton Medical Practice (32 per cent), and The Integrated Care Partnership in in Epsom (39 per cent).

Making an appointment

The survey in this instance asked respondents about their 'overall experience in making an appointment'.

The best overall performer in this regard was the Elizabeth House Medical Practice in Warlingham, with 94 per cent of respondents describing their overall appointment experience as 'Good'.

Similarly impressive on their appointment performances were Fort House Surgery in Walton (93 per cent), Guildford Rivers Practice (92 per cent) and Witley Surgery (92 per cent).

Worst among the GP practices in south east London for overall appointment experience rated as 'Good' according to the data was the Goldsworth Park Health Centre in Woking (47 per cent), followed by The Yellow Practice in Walton (48 per cent), and the Glenlyn Medical Centre (49 per cent).
