A family art duo are showcasing their work in an intergenerational exhibit in Carshalton.

Ted Scoble, 91, has entered this year’s Carshalton Artists Open Windows event with granddaughter-in-law, Emily Chilvers, a local basket maker.

The artist has created his largest paintings to date, which are displayed in the window of his house.

The pair have produced several depictions of vases, which are painted in watercolour by Edward and filled with Emily's woven flowers.

Ted said he hoped his art would brighten up the community.

"I've always tinkered with painting throughout my life and am glad to have had it to keep me busy over the many months locked in this last year. It's been a challenge painting this large but I'm glad to be part of this event to show others what I've been up to.

"And hopefully spread a bit of joy as people walk by and look up at our display rather than down at the pavement! We've all become a little tunnel visioned through Covid so we've got to open our eyes again and see the happiness around us," he said.

Emily, his grandaughter-in-law, added:

"This year has been so difficult but being creative has certainly kept me going and I just wanted everyone to have the chance to see Ted's talent and give him some confidence too after a year being cooped up. It's nice to reconnect with the community in this creative way."
