A second person has been arrested by police investigating the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Croydon last week.

On Saturday afternoon (July 3) a Met Police spokesperson said that an 18-year-old man had been arrested at an address in the Brierley Hill area of the West Midlands in relation to the murder case and taken to a local police station.

His arrest in the case follows that of a 15-year-old boy in Brighton on Friday, who is being held by East Sussex police presently.

The Met Police launched the murder investigation after the fatal stabbing, which took place on Bracken Avenue in Shrublands, Croydon in the early hours of Thursday (July 1).

As the Croydon Guardian reported, police attended after they were called at 12.46am to reports of a stabbing, and found a 16-year-old boy suffering serious stab wounds.

They administered first aid as paramedics including first responders from London's Air Ambulance arrived, but despite their best efforts the victim was pronounced dead at 1.34am.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers as the investigation awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police said they are "retaining an open mind concerning motive" in the murder case.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Blair added:

"Our investigation is gathering pace but though we have made our second arrest, we still want to hear from anyone who has information relating to this horrific loss of a young life."
