Firefighters are warning residents over dangers linked to white appliances after suggesting that a tumble dryer caused a house fire in Croydon overnight.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said a fire they raced to extinguish at a home in Croydon in the early hours of Wednesday morning (June 30) was "believed to have involved a tumble dryer" and issued words of warning to residents over potential fire-related risks of such appliances.

The fire broke out at a residential address on Sundridge Road in Croydon in the moments before 12.30am on Wednesday morning when the brigade were called.

As spokesperson for LFB described:

"Part of the ground floor of a mid-terraced house was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

"The cause of the fire is believed to have involved a tumble dryer."

Adding to the statement, the LFB spokesperson urged residents to monitor their appliances and if they displayed any unusual activity or noises, to act:

"If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it. If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.

"Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought," the LFB spokesperson said.
