Crystal Palace are set to appoint former Arsenal legend Patrick Viera as their new manager, it has emerged.

Reports surfaced on Tuesday (June 29) that CPFC and Viera had agreed terms and were set to confirm the Frenchman's appointment later on Tuesday.

According to The Athletic sports news site, an agreement was reached "in principle" between the former French international and Palace after weeks of speculation as to who would take over from former CPFC manager Roy Hodgson, who retired at the end of last season.

The Athletic football Correspondent David Ornstein tweeted on Tuesday:

"EXCLUSIVE: Crystal Palace set to appoint Patrick Vieira as manager. Agreement in principle reached but not signed yet.

"Work permit process for 45yo former Nice boss & Arsenal Invincible under way. Confirmation expected in due course."

Palace have been linked with a number of prospective managers in recent weeks, including former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, the likelihood of Viera actually clinching the job seemed closer to being completed on Tuesday than previous links with a number of reports suggesting the deal was close to being finalised.

Writing in The Athletic, Ornstein said: "The deal has yet to be signed but, after talks over the last 24 hours, all parties expect the move to be rubber-stamped today (Tuesday)."
