A dog has been credited with saving the life of a man who was trapped in a lake near Redhill over the weekend.

Surrey Police's PD India and her handler Paul Bubb were praised after they rescued a man from a lake in Redhill in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 6).

Authorities were called there in the moments after 1am on Sunday after a man was reported missing and thought to have entered the water.

"Officers were working out how best to search the water, when PD India started pulling towards the lake.

"Trusting India’s instincts, PC Bubb followed her into the water, where the man was found," a spokesperson for the county police force described.

The man was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment but both India and Bubb were credited with saving his life, as was the bond the pair share from working together.

"The actions of PD India and PC Bubb saved a man’s life. I would like to commend not only PD India’s incredible natural instincts, but also PC Bubb’s bond with India," Sergeant Will Poole from the Surrey and Sussex Dog Unit said.

"His confidence in her and determination to save the man were instrumental in achieving this outcome," he added.
