THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised to help pay for the funeral of a Deliveroo driver following a crash in Morden.

On Saturday (May 29), police were called to reports of a crash which involved a car and a motorcyclist on St Helier Avenue, close to Netley Gardens at around 4.11pm.

Paramedics and London's Air Ambulance rushed to the scene but despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at one minute past 5pm.

The victim, named Marcos Mateus Alves, was described as a "cheerful" father-of-two, by a new fundraising page set up by a friend.

The appeal launched by Raul Broleze read: "We just learned that a motorcycle courier friend, who worked with us here in the area, suffered a serious accident and died.

"We need to come together in this difficult time and collect enough for the body to be sent to Brazil for family and friends.

"So that he can have a dignified and respectful burial as he deserves.

"Cheerful boy, easy to smile and popular in our community."

He added: "Matheus and I have known each other since he arrived in the UK, and we always work together.

"All the money collected will be used to transport Matheus' body to Brazil.

"The rest of the money will be sent to his family, Matheus had two daughters, one of whom was 5-years-old, and the other was only 2-years-old."

The fundraiser reached £17,382 at the time of publishing.
