A drowning man has been rescued from the water in Cross Deep yesterday evening. 

Police, paramedics, fire crews and the RNLI were called to save the man who is in his 40s. 

Eyewitnesses said around 16 emergency vehicles attended the scene near Radnor Gardens, which backs onto the River Thames. 

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: 

"Police were called at 19:14pm on Monday, 31 May to reports of a person in the water at Cross Deep, Twickenham.

"Officers attended with the RNLI and LFB.

"The man, aged in his 40s, was recovered from the water and was treated at the scene by LAS before being taken to hospital where he remains at this time.

"We await an update on his condition.

"Enquiries into the circumstances continue, though at this stage the incident is not being treated as suspicious."
