Road police temporarily closed the M25 motorway in both directions this evening (Monday, May 10) after a man was spotted walking in the central reservation.

The incident took place near to Junction 11 at Chertsey on the motorway, with road users reporting significant delays in either direction while police dealt with the situation.

Responding to a request from the Surrey Comet, a spokesperson for Surrey Police said:

"The M25 is currently closed in both directions between junctions 11 and 12 whilst we deal with a concern for safety after a man was seen walking on the central reservation.

"Please avoid this section of the M25 until further notice."

In a later update issued around 7.40pm, Surrey Police confirmed that the road had since been reopened and that the man in question had been "located" by British Transport Police.

BTP were contacted for comment.
