Wimbledon Times readers have been sharing their ideas for improving Centre Court as the shopping centre is in new hands.

As previously reported, property and development group Romulus acquired Centre Court with the hopes to bring more life to the heart of the Wimbledon community.

The SW London-based property group plan to re-establish the shopping centre and said they will be listening closely to residents and businesses in the process.

This week, we asked you what you would like to see in Centre Court.

Here are a few of your suggestions.

Primark

Your Local Guardian:

The popular clothes store which also offers homeware was highly requested by our readers.

The bargain store was mentioned a number of times with our readers pointing out that Merton is yet to benefit from the much-loved retail chain.

Some people said they would like to see a Primark takeover the empty space at Debenhams which closed in January 2020.

Poundland

Your Local Guardian:

Poundland was also mentioned several times - in the hopes of bringing more discount stores to the shopping centre.

With many of their items selling at the single price of £1, it makes sense why the store was such a popular choice with readers.

Zara

Zara also seemed to be a popular choice with our readers...

Previously, shoppers in Wimbledon were able to visit Miss Selfridges or Debenhams for high-end stylish clothes - but with both stores now closed, it seems that there is room for a clothing store like Zara.

River Island has also closed down in Centre Court.

B&M

Your Local Guardian:

B&M was also suggested a number of times.

The popular retailer is known for selling "big brands at sensational prices" and sells everything from garden ware to furniture.

More independent stores

Some of our readers said they would like to see more independent businesses reside in the shopping centre.

One reader said: "Could we have an area for small, local specialist shops? A proper butcher, fishmonger, a deli with fresh-cut meat and cheese, farm produce?

"You can get the homogeneous chain stores anywhere in the country. Let's try to say, 'this is Wimbledon'."

Another reader said: "Would be great to have the Zara's and Primark's of this world but if one floor could be small independents that would be amazing."

What else would people like to see? Readers also mentioned:

- Home Bargains

- Foot Locker

- Iceland

- Next

- The Range

- John Lewis

- Matalan

- M&S
