Pupils across Sutton are set to take on a number of fundraising challenges after being inspired by Sir Captain Tom Moore.

School children at Sutton Education Trust have been working hard to make a positive impact on their communities throughout Covid-19. Together they have previously raised over £28,000 for charities.

Their most recent idea came from Muschamp Primary School who suggested that schools across the trust should fundraise to thank staff at Epsom and St Helier hospitals.

Together children from the trust decided that each school will hold a sponsored event, around the theme of 100 on April 30.

Events will range from 100 laps around the playground, 100 skips, jumping 100m and more.

Money raised will be shared between three key areas:

  • Support health and wellbeing initiatives for staff
  • Contribute towards Epsom and St Helier's Magic Carpet appeal - a digital resource for Covid-secure touchless play, which can transport young patients to imaginary worlds for support and entertainment.
  • Help fund medical equipment

Children from Sutton Education Trust have since invited other children in the borough to get involved - with eight other primary schools opting in plus six schools under LEO Academy Trust.

A spokesperson for Muschamp Primary School Council said: “Captain Tom was an inspiration to us and made us believe that anything is possible if you always try your hardest.

"We hope that together we can raise a significant amount of money and that our actions help the hard-working staff of the hospital know how much their dedication is appreciated by the community.”
