Sutton ranks sixth for the area with the strongest economy, according to a recent survey.
New research from savings platform Raisin UK revealed which parts of the UK have the strongest local economies, and are likely to recover the fastest from Covid-19.
Sutton was ranked sixth place, based on a number of factors including:
- Number of large businesses
- Business survival rate
- Net growth of birth and death rates
- Rate of people in employment
- Amount of people receiving income support
- Average government spend per head
In Sutton, the percentage of employment was recorded at 75.4%, while large businesses reported grown by 2.68% since 2015.
Raisin also reported that the population in Sutton has increased significantly by 45.21% which has 'only strengthened the local economy'.
Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire came out on top, as a result of 79.9% being in work, whilst large businesses have also grown by 10% in the town since 2015.
Winchester in Hampshire came in second place, while Bristol ranked third.
Kevin Mountford, co-founder of Raisin UK: "According to our research, Sutton is in a great position to bounce back economically from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"With a thriving population and steady business growth, it's one of the most dynamic local economies in the UK.
"With mass investment and development of the town centre, high street and an established hospitality sector - Sutton is definitely one London borough to watch."
