Fire crews are currently battling a house fire that broke out on a residential street in Epsom earlier today (Saturday, April 3).

Images on social media showed plumes of smoke billowing from the roof of a house on Middle Lane in Epsom around 11.20am, with onlookers gathering at a safe distance nearby.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed their attendance at the scene and said the fire had impacted at least three houses.

In a statement posted to Twitter early on Saturday afternoon, a spokesperson for SFRS said:

"Eight fire engines currently attending fire in three terraced houses in #KT17 in #Epsom.

"All residents accounted for.

"People living nearby advised to keep doors and windows shut, and avoid Kiln Lane and Middle Lane area."

Social media users meanwhile reported fire crews from both SFRS and London Fire Brigade were in attendance at the fire.

As the Surrey Comet reported previously, the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) recently called on Surrey County Council to reverse of number of cuts to SFRS services they say have made the area less safe from fires after a person died as a result of a fire in Banstead on March 19.
