A 53-year-old man arrested by counter-terrorism officers in south-west London is due to appear in court accused of possessing explosives.

Michael Pym-Nixson, of St George's Road, Kingston Upon Thames, is charged with two counts of possessing explosive substances.

He was arrested on March 22 as part of an operation by the Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism command.

Pym-Nixson was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 30.

On March 23, police said the suspect was now being held at a central London police station.

Meanwhile, further searches were being conducted where he was arrested, with a police cordon in place.

"The risk to people in nearby properties has been assessed and it hasn’t been deemed necessary to evacuate addresses in the surrounding area. Enquiries continue," a spokesperson said.
