A mass coronavirus vaccination centre has been established at Wimbledon’s Centre Court shopping centre.

Located in the heart of Wimbledon, the centre will play an important role in helping to vaccinate people eligible for a Covid-19 jab as well as health and care staff.

The vaccination centre is based on the upper mall of the shopping centre, on the site of the former Gap store.

Centre Court is next to Wimbledon train and underground station as well as being close to local bus routes.

Dr Vasa Gnanapragasam, GP Borough Lead for Merton, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Centre Court for giving us space for this Covid-19 vaccination centre in a location that benefits from excellent public transport links and parking.

“Vaccinations are being done in locations across south west London, they are safe and effective and I would ask anyone who has any questions or concerns to talk to their GP or find out the vaccine facts online at NHS.UK.”

Centre manager, Simon Plumb, said: “We’re pleased and proud to offer a complimentary space to the NHS as part of their vaccination programme.

"As a centre in the heart of Wimbledon, we look to serve the community in every way possible and there is nothing more important at this time than providing a safe environment to assist the vaccination effort, enabling the reopening of society.”

The centre will operate by appointment only. Appointments are staggered to allow for social distancing and people who have booked are asked not to turn up early to avoid creating queues.
