Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has been taken to hospital "as a precaution" after feeling unwell, it has been reported.

The Queen's Husband was admitted to hospital on Tuesday evening, according to the BBC.

The 99-year-old royal reportedly went in "as a precautionary measure".

Philip was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark on the island of Corfu on June 10 1921.

He has been married to the Queen for more than 70 years, but retired from official duties in 2017 after decades of public service.

Last year, he celebrated his 99th brithday and was photographed in a rare picture with the Queen.

A palace spokesman said: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening.

“The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell.

“The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
