A band project is motivating young songwriters to stay creative over lockdown.

Powerjam, based in Twickenham, is offering budding musicians a chance to debut an original song across popular streaming platforms, including Spotify.

Winners of the competition can professionally record and release a single, usually worth £1,000.

The not-for-profit supports teen and tween musicians by helping them to form or join bands.

Powerjam hosts workshops where groups can rehearse and gig regularly, songwrite, and professionally record, market, and release music.

The project was awarded a ‘Community Heroes Award’ in 2019 by Richmond Council.

Bands at Powerjam have achieved over 12,000 Spotify streams on recently released singles and over 50,000 collectively.

Recently, young musicians have played their songs on SW London's Riverside Radio, participated in a New York Times endorsed International livestream, and have gigged at Richmond Riverside and Strawberry Hill Music Festivals.

Richmond, Hounslow and Kingston residents are able to take part.

The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2021.
