Caring classmates from a Wandsworth school are taking on a group challenge to show their support for two children’s charities.

Kieran, Barnaby, Alfie, Mathilda and their friends from Finton House school are walking and running 100km each throughout February.

There are now 38 children – mostly from year 5 - who have signed up, dubbing themselves ‘The Feb 100K Kids’.

The children are fundraising for causes close to their hearts.

Breathing Spaces @ Great Ormand Street Hospital is a programme inspired by Rory, Barnaby‘s brother and Harry‘s Giant Pledge is a fund set up in memory of Harry, Alfie’s cousin.

The children were inspired by some of the mothers at the school, who will be undertaking an impressive 100km in 24 hours in May 2021.

The idea was inspired by a “simple act of kindness” from only child Kieran, who was missing his friends in lockdown.

He was touched by a picture of a ‘wishing star’ made by a student in art, which wished that their cousin Harry - who died of bone cancer aged 5 - could come back to life.

Lisa, one of the parents, said:

“I’m so unbelievably inspired by these children who put their hand up to volunteer without hesitation; the Finton Goals and Finton values really do shine through our boys and girls. Lockdown has been difficult for all of these children, but this has given them a sense of control and newfound purpose. We are so proud of them all.”

Since the JustGiving page was created on 31st January, Kieran’s original target of £100 has turned into a group target of £15,000 - of which over £12,000 has already been raised.
