Schools and early years settings have continued to deliver care and education throughout Covid-19, with staff in Sutton working hard to implement changes to keep children safe.

In Sutton, educational settings have worked hard to meet the needs of the borough’s children and young people in new and innovative ways over the past half term.

As cases of coronavirus increased, schools once again moved to online learning for all pupils except children of key workers or vulnerable children in January.

While early years settings remained open for all children.

Sutton Council has published a message to thank staff across the sector for their services to families in the pandemic.

“Throughout the pandemic, our priority has been the health and wellbeing of our children and young people- ensuring they get the best education and support possible, despite the challenges," said Councillor Marian James, Chair of the People Committee.

"I am incredibly proud of how our education community has stepped up and continued to innovate new ways of providing services, and of their tremendous effort to deliver learning in rapidly changing circumstances.

"I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every member of the teaching and support staff who have all worked tirelessly to deliver classes at a very difficult and challenging time.

“I also recognise this is a testing time for our parents in the borough, juggling work and/or care commitments, alongside home schooling.

"Again, thanks to our schools and early years settings for providing tools and support to parents and thanks to parents for your continued commitment to provide home schooling during these turbulent times.”
