THE parts of Colchester worst affected by coronavirus have been revealed as the borough's infection rate continues to fall.

The two areas with the biggest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the week to January 13 were Mile End and Braiswick and Parson's Heath.

Both had over 100 cases of Covid-19 in this period with 126 and 108 respectively.

However, the two worst affected areas adjusted for population size are Mile End and Braiswick and Monkwick, which had 96 cases.

Monkwick's infection rate over this period was 928.9 cases per 100,000 people, the highest rate in Colchester and in the highest banding of infection rate.

Infection rates across north Essex continue to fall.

In the week to January 14 the rate in colchester was 601.9 cases per 100,000 people.

This is because there were 1,172 cases of the virus confirmed in this period.

The infection rate has dropped from 881,8 cases per 100,000 people in the week previously.

The infection rate in Tendring has also fallen to 885 cases per 100,000 people after 1,297 cases were confirmed.

This has dropped by around 50 per cent on a week before, when it was 1,220.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Tendring is no longer in the top ten worst affected areas in England.

  • Tendring - 885.0 (1,297 cases) - 1220.7 (1,789 cases)
  • Chelmsford - 628.4 (1,121 cases) - 955.8 (1,705 cases)
  • Colchester - 601.9 (1,172 cases) - 881.8 (1,717 cases)
  • Braintree - 608.1 (928 cases) - 997.4 (1,522 cases)
  • Maldon - 552.9 (359 cases) - 871.8 (566 cases)
