Recap: Gavin Williamson delays start of secondary schools

    Education Secretary Gavin Williamson announced that secondary and college pupils in exam years should return from the week beginning of January 11 - with the rest of pupils returning on January 18.

  • Some primary schools in areas will be asked to not reopen in January, while "most" will reopen. Schools will still be open for vulnerable children and children of key workers.

  • Some secondary schools in areas with high rates will be asked to not bring back all pupils.

  • The government were under extreme pressures from SAGE to delay the return to schools in January following concerns of rising Covid-19 cases.
