A seven-year-old from Carshalton is on a mission to raise funds to help families of children with brain-related neurological conditions.

Superstar Barney Luck has launched a 'Christmas-a-thon' to support children's charity Cerebra.

Barney will be completing 12 challenges in the lead up to Christmas, which range from helping his family, neighbours and personal growth.

Tasks include weekend walks to reach his 50km goal, cooking a meal for his family and completing 24 puzzles!

“I know brain conditions are very difficult to solve and I want to help all children have a happy life," says Barney.

"I chose things that would inspire people to sponsor me instead of choosing things like drink eight drinks a day which would be easy."

Kindhearted Barney has also set himself the challenge to read four chapter books, learn a song on a guitar, dance all the way to school and more.

His mother, Joanne Luck said: "We usually have an advent calendar with a different activity, visit or charitable act on each day but due to the pandemic we felt limited about what we could include.

"We knew we wanted to still do something for charity at this time of year and thought the best way to do it would be to see if we could get sponsorship for something.

“I am very proud of Barney and how enthusiastic and determined he has been to complete the challenges.

"We initially set a target of £30 - he never dreamed he could raise £874.

"It’s nice for him to see what’s possible when you’re kind and you put your mind to something.

"He now wants to raise £1,000,000!”
