A MAN has been charged after he was caught stealing a catalytic converter this week.

Police were called by Sutton Council security officers to 'suspicious' activity in the Times Square Car Park on December 2.

Plain clothes officers rushed to the scene and emergency response officers contained the area - the suspects managed to evade police.

Two of the males were seen leaving the car park by officers from the Sutton Safer Parks Team.

The Safer Parks Team then chased the males and caught one outside McDonald’s in Sutton High Street.

Your Local Guardian:

The male was arrested for Going Equipped and fraud in relation to a cloned number plate.

Sutton Police wrote on Facebook: "Section 18 searches were carried out at the home address of the arrested male. During the search, a quantity of cash was seized.

"The male was interviewed the same evening by officers from the Operation Basswood team who are investigating the Catalytic Converter thefts throughout Sutton, Croydon and Bromley.

"As a result, the male was charged, he has also been remanded in custody pending an imminent court appearance."
