An Epsom man who stole two Mercedes from a home in Ashtead has been jailed.
24-year-old Connor Higgs was sentenced to was sentenced on Monday (November 16), for four separate offences relating to a residential burglary, including:
1 count of burglary
1 count of theft of a motor vehicle
1 count of fraud by false representation
1 count of breach of suspended sentence
He was handed a 24-months prison sentence for the burglary, nine months for the theft of a motor vehicle, one month for a count of fraud (both to run concurrently) and four months for a breach of his suspended sentence.
Higgs previously pleaded guilty to burglary and stealing of a motor vehicle.
A spokesperson for Surrey Police described their involvement in the case, which included tracking Higgs down after one of the stolen cars was clocked by number plate recognition:
"Officers were first called to a residential address in Ashtead on Monday, 27 July of this year, after it was reported that two Mercedes cars had been stolen, as well as a handbag and £400 in cash.
"The incident had taken place in the early hours of the morning whilst the victims were asleep upstairs.
"After one of the stolen vehicles was picked up on an automatic number plate recognition camera in Epsom, Higgs was later located and arrested.
"Both cars and the handbag were recovered, although the cash and car keys were not," they said.
Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Todd McPhail added: “This sentencing is a real achievement for the team whose diligence and dedication has resulted in another burglar being put behind bars."
