Armed police were called to a busy road this morning following reports of a man in possession of a firearm.

Police were called to the A41 in the Bushey area just before 9am, with local officers attending alongside armed units.

Officers on the ground were also supported by the National Police Air Service.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Armed Policing Unit tweeted that the report police received was that a person had been seen with a shotgun.

A search of the area was carried out but no person matching the description given by the caller was found.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called to reports of suspicious activity on the outskirts of Watford at just before 9am today (Wednesday 18 November).

"It was reported by a motorist that a man with a firearm had been seen on foot by fields on Elton Way.
