A mother and daughter duo have made it their mission to fill care homes with colourful flowers in Wandsworth.

Leonie Weeks, from Streatham, noticed the simple pleasure delivering flowers would bring her grandmother, Janique, when she lived in a nursing home.

Though her Janique passed away last year, at the grand age of 101, Leonie was determined to continue lifting other people’s spirits.

The 37-year-old teamed up with her mum, Fabienne, to launch Bloom Intention, a project which delivers faux-flower arrangements to care homes across the community.

Former artist Fabienne is the creative side, hand-making the arrangements, whilst Leonie is in charge of sourcing the flowers and gathering donations via their Go Fund Me page.

She uses artificial flowers because they create less waste, are easier to maintain and can be quarantined before use.

The pair plan to decorate their first house with seasonal arrangements in Tooting this December.

Ronald McDonald House is located next to St George's Hospital and is where parents whose children are being treated can stay.

The house is designed to support families with necessary facilities like comfortable beds, a kitchen to make home-cooked meals and laundry services.

Mother-of-two Leonie said she had "big plans” after this project to expand to other houses in the borough - though she "wished there were more hours in the day."

“Having visited my grandma regularly, every time I went it was clear the staff worked so hard but there were not a lot of changes in day-to-day life. It’s only a small gesture but something like flowers brings colour and lifts spirits of both staff and residents. It changes the look and feel of the house.”

“This is especially true in a pandemic, as care homes have really had a tough year. It’s a great time to give them a bit of a lift and show them people are thinking of them, and that they care.”
