The A41 has been shut one way due to a burst water main.
Hertfordshire County Council says Affinity Water is carrying out emergency works on the A41 between Elstree and Bushey Heath.
This means drivers will unable to travel towards Watford from the Esso Petrol Station roundabout near Elstree.
The A41 is open both ways once drivers pass Elstree Road.
Traffic on the A41 is not affected or in Bushey Heath, but it is queuing into Elstree from Centennial Park and on Watford Road after Aldenham Reseviour.
The disruption is set to last until November 2, although the emergency works may be completed quicker.
