The study, conducted by price comparison company Confused.com, researched the number of streetlights, CCTV cameras and burglaries per 1,000 people in every London Borough.

Other south west boroughs followed close behind, with Merton in second and Wandsworth fourth.

Your Local Guardian:

Westminster, however, was the most dangerous out of all London boroughs, with a massive 321.4 crimes per 1,000 people.

Overall, the City of London scored the safest borough, taking into consideration other factors such as seeing police on the streets, physically clean streets, and an active neighbourhood watch.

However, only 36% of Londoners said they actually feel safe where they live.

Factors that contributed to their unease included loitering on the streets, stretched emergency services and the presence of homeless people.

As a result, people living in Greater London had the highest amount of fake burglar alarms out of all cities in the UK, with 16% admitting to owning one.

Whilst almost 1 in 4 people in London own a dog to help them feel more secure about potential home break-ins.
