One of London's largest providers of post 16-education has confirmed a total of thirteen coronavirus cases since the start of September.

South Thames Colleges Group, operates from four main college campuses at Carshalton, Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth spread across four London Boroughs.

The college group were contacted for comment after rumours had circulated across campuses over the past week.

A spokesperson confirmed that they have had confirmed Covid-19 cases but did not specify how many per campus.

South Thames Colleges Group said: "Within our community of over 20,000 students we have had a total of thirteen confirmed cases since the start of the academic year.

"We have no evidence of any cross-infections and in each instance have acted quickly on advice on PHE and used our internal procedures to communicate with our community.

"We are proud to say that we will continue our face to face teaching, while maximising protective measures to secure everyone’s health."

The education provider introduced a series of measures at the start of term such as, social distancing 1m with PPE, 2m without.

Other measures include; masks in corridors, class bubbles and instructions to self-isolate if a person displays coronavirus symptoms.
