The images of two men have been released by investigators with the Metropolitan Police in connection with an assault and robbery that left the victim with a broken eye socket.

Police said they were now actively seeking the two men shown in CCTV images in a public appeal released Tuesday morning (October 6).

The attack happened outside a shop on Portland Road in South Norwood around 8pm on September 15.

The victim, a man, was standing there with a friend when two strangers approached and attacked him.

The Met's statement on the assault said:

"The man was head-butted, kneed in the head, and repeatedly punched as he lay unconscious on the floor.

"The man was then dragged, unconscious, into the street where he was kicked in the head and stamped on.

"During the attack, which lasted approximately two minutes, a bag was taken from the man.

"He is now recovering from a fractured eye socket."

PC Luke Dowling, who investigates, described the attack as "remorseless":

"This was a sustained, remorseless attack that must not go unpunished.

"The man is incredibly lucky he didn’t escape with more serious injuries. We are working to trace those responsible and hold them to account."
