Extinction Rebellion took to the streets of Mitcham as part of their mass cycle event.

Activists cycled through Tooting finishing off in Mitcham town centre on Sunday September 27.

XR Merton say they decided to change their mass cycle route to Mitcham as it "appears to have the worst air pollution."

A spokesperson for XR Merton said: “Mitcham has to breathe in the toxic emissions from Beddington incinerator.

"We are concerned that Mitcham residents are being treated as second-class citizens in Merton when it comes to air quality.

Your Local Guardian:

"We are currently in a respiratory pandemic and we are asking people to switch away from driving.

“Many car journeys in London are short if people could switch to active travel for the shorter journeys it would ease congestion and help with our air pollution.

"We are in a climate emergency, we need everyone to help and be on board."
