Two men were put in hospital after a mass brawl in Shepperton on Tuesday night (September 22) that police said involved "extreme violence".
Police rushed to the scene of the fight, involving a large group of people, on Shepperton Court at 9pm.
The group involved broke apart and fled before the arrival of the police, but officers said they were told of two people who were already receiving treatment at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey after the fight broke out.
Both suffered serious injuries during the encounter and police said they believe that their wounds "may have been inflicted with a hammer or similar type weapon".
"This was an extremely violent attack which took place in a public place so we are hoping someone might have seen something," Detective Inspector Sean West said.
"We are urging anyone with any information to get in touch with us."
Two men, both 21 from Sunbury-on-Thames, have been arrested on suspicion of assault causing GBH and ABH and released on police bail.
