Sutton Council are urging residents to help tackle littering across the borough following the easing of restrictions.

Council authorities are encouraging residents to take part in the Great British September Clean which ends on September 27.

The annual event organised by Keep Britain Tidy aims to keep boroughs "looking their best."

Sutton Council are offering residents litter pickers, gloves and waste sacks.

As well as, arranging waste pick ups from a pre-arranged collection point.

Councillor Manuel Abellan said: “As lockdown measures have eased in our area, sadly we are seeing litter returning to some of Sutton’s streets and parks.

“Our street cleaning and parks management staff have been working incredibly hard to keep up with the huge volume of extra litter being left behind. But they could really do with some help.

"So I would encourage residents to get involved in this year’s national clean and help keep our areas looking their best.

"There really is no excuse for littering - there are plenty of litter bins located across the borough.

"Find one, put your rubbish in it and if it’s full, take your litter home with you. It’s as simple as that.”
