A group of gymnasts in Surrey enjoyed returning to training at the Spectrum Gymnastics Academy in Surrey recently after months of lockdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The academy, who operate out of Lingfield College, were forced like so many organizations in recent months to move their physical meetings and training online due to the constraints imposed to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Since the start of September, however, new Covid-safe measures have been taken by staff at the academy in order to minimize the risks of transmitting the virus and allowing Surrey’s gymnasts of the future to get back on the mats again.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be back in the gym, although I didn’t sleep the night before we reopened!” Club Director Emma Young said.

“We’ve adapted our building so it’s now three mini gyms which act as separate bubbles and we’ve implemented all of the Covid-measures, like sanitising stations and deep cleaning of equipment,” she explained.

“The gymnasts are over the moon to be back and our coaches and parents have been absolutely fantastic too.”

British Gymnastics President Helen Phillips MBE added her thoughts:

“The hard work of all the staff and coaches at Spectrum Gymnastics Academy is superb to see and it is great news that they are ready to welcome their gymnasts back to the sport that they love.”
